Types of unmanned aerial vehicle cables

Jun. 09, 2025

The drone cable features flexibility, tensile strength (the cable's own weight), wear resistance, anti-dragging, water resistance, UV resistance, cold resistance, oil resistance, aging resistance, acid and alkali resistance, weather resistance, and light weight, meeting the requirements for use in different weather conditions.

1.Tethered drone cable

Tethered drone cables are specially designed for drones that need to hover in the air for a long time. Their main function is to supply power and transmit signals to the drones. Tethered unmanned aerial vehicle cables need to meet the following performance requirements:

1-1. Electrical performance requirements:

Tethered unmanned aerial vehicle cables need to have the transmission capabilities of high voltage and large current. The working voltage of the cable can reach 400VDC, the withstand voltage can be as high as 2000VDC, and the rated current is 14A to ensure a stable power supply.

1-2. Mechanical performance requirements:

The cable needs to have high tensile strength to withstand the tensile force when the unmanned aerial vehicle ascends and descends. The tensile strength must be greater than 2000N to ensure the safety of the cable during use.

1-3. Physical performance requirements:

The cable for tethered unmanned aerial vehicles should be lightweight and flexible to facilitate folding and unwinding and reduce flight resistance. The outer diameter of the cable should be controlled within φ4mm, and the weight per 100 meters should not exceed 2.3Kg.

1-4. Environmental Adaptability:

Cables need to adapt to various environmental conditions, including high and low temperature working/storage conditions, as well as resistance to damp heat, salt spray and other environments. Low-temperature operation/storage =-55℃, high-temperature operation/storage =+200℃.

2. Power cables for unmanned aerial vehicles

The power cable for unmanned aerial vehicles is mainly used to provide power for unmanned aerial vehicles. Its model specifications and performance requirements are as follows:

2-1. Conductor materials:

The conductors of power cables are usually made of copper-clad aluminum wire, oxygen-free copper wire or tin-plated copper wire to ensure good electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance.

2-2. Insulating materials:

The insulating materials of power cables are usually PE or PUR, etc., to provide good insulation performance and wear resistance.

2-3. Shielding layer:

To effectively shield electromagnetic interference, power cables are usually equipped with braided shielding layers.

2-4. Outer protective layer:

The outer sheath material is also made of PE or PUR, etc., to protect the cable from the influence of the external environment.

3. Unmanned aerial vehicle signal transmission cable

The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) signal transmission cable is responsible for transmitting flight control data, video data, telemetry data, etc. Its model specifications and performance requirements are as follows:

3-1. Optical Fiber Integration:

Signal transmission cables usually integrate single-mode or multi-mode optical fibers to achieve the transmission of high-definition video and control signals.

3-2. Anti-interference ability:

Cables need to have excellent anti-interference capabilities to ensure the stable transmission of signals.

3-3. Signal Transmission performance:

The cable should support high-speed data transmission to meet the requirements of unmanned aerial vehicles for real-time high-definition video and control signals.
